Monks Flasks | Cross of Bihac & Crucifix of Auschwitz | The Offering | Sleeping in the Light |

These are my bread and butter. The pictures on the walls around the gallery represent all the ones I made last year. I made over 1200 perfume bottles. I learned to make perfume bottles, or ‘fumes’ as they are called by other glassblowers, from Michael Trimpol. He was a couple of years a head of me at Sheridan College and was building his own studio during my last year. I helped him build and he showed me a few tricks. He still makes exquisite perfume bottles in Moscow, Vermont. (http://www.littleriverhotglass.com/) I have made about a dozen different styles over the years, but these are the four that I am currently producing; Shell, Bubble, Fig, and one so new I still don’t have a name for it.
I attended a number of different courses aside from the glass courses while at Sheridan; drawing, photography, design, English, and art history. My art history teacher was Carol Hanks. She had the dubious pleasure of showing us the wonders of all that had preceded us in the art world. This involved us watching countless slides in a warm and dark room. Well you can imagine, as fascinating as this was, my fellow students and I were seriously addicted to our materials and development of skills, so we were often lacking in the sleep department. Snoring was not allowed. But this course showed me wonders of which I was totally ignorant. One such was Antonio Gaudi (1852-1926) a Catalan Architect whose works are throughout Barcelona. He was inspired by nature, the mathematics of snail shells and corals. All his work appears to have grown from the earth. It’s breathtaking. The ‘Shell’ bottle is from studying his work.
